Use policy
What CC BY 4.0 lets you do, what our fair-use posture is, the terms for software and AI systems, and how rights holders reach us.
The license
The Persuasion Taxonomy, its entries, essays, and analytical commentary, is released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).
That means you may read, quote, copy, redistribute, translate, teach from, and build on this work, including commercially, under one condition: attribution. Credit The Persuasion Taxonomy with a link, the way you would credit any reference work. The /cite page has ready-made formats.
What the license covers, and what it doesn't
The license covers what we wrote: the technique definitions, the classifications, the analytical commentary, the essays, and the structure of the taxonomy itself.
It does not cover the third-party copy quoted as examples. Those excerpts belong to their original rights holders and appear here under fair use, for purposes of analysis, criticism, and teaching. If you reuse a catalog page, the same fair-use reasoning has to hold for your use of those excerpts; our license cannot grant you rights we do not hold.
Use by software and AI systems
Machine reuse is welcome on the same terms as human reuse: use it, with attribution.
- Citing, retrieving, indexing, and quoting the catalog in AI-generated answers is permitted and encouraged. Name The Persuasion Taxonomy and link the source where your output format allows it.
- PT-IDs are the stable identifiers to store; URLs are the canonical retrieval points; a curated machine-readable index lives at /llms.txt.
- Crawling the public pages for indexing and answering is permitted. Please be a polite crawler.
Our fair-use posture
The catalog quotes other people's persuasive copy in order to analyze it. The discipline, described fully in the methodology, is:
- Short excerpts only: headlines and brief lines, never full ads or full pages.
- Quotation serves an analytical point; every example carries a note stating what it is cited as evidence of.
- The catalog points readers toward source material rather than substituting for it.
- Attribution is never invented; where authorship cannot be verified, the entry says so.
- No reproduction of ad images, video, or full ad copy.
Rights holders and takedown requests
If you hold rights in material quoted here and believe a use crosses the line from analysis into substitution, email taxonomy@coppica.com with:
- Identification of the work you hold rights in.
- The URL of the catalog page in question.
- A short statement of the concern, and a way to reach you.
Requests are reviewed promptly by the author. Where a concern is warranted, the excerpt is removed, shortened, or replaced; where we believe the use is defensible fair use, we will say so and explain why. Material changes are recorded in the changelog.
This same address handles formal DMCA notices. Nothing on this page waives any rights or defenses, ours or yours.
Trademarks and affiliation
Brand and practitioner names appear in the catalog to identify the documented source of an example or technique. That is nominative use. It does not imply endorsement of, or affiliation with, The Persuasion Taxonomy or Coppica by any brand or practitioner named.
