Attraction Machinery
The move builds something worth seeking so that qualified buyers come to you instead of you chasing them.
Definition
What it does
It constructs a mechanism, a free catalog, a book, a recorded message, an endorsed mailing, or expert positioning, that makes qualified prospects raise their hand and start the conversation themselves. Instead of chasing cold leads, the seller plants an attractor and lets response come to it. The copy promises or shows that customers will seek you out, call you, request the thing, or arrive at your door. It reverses the normal direction of pursuit so the buyer moves toward the seller rather than the seller pushing at the buyer.
Why it works
A prospect who makes the first move arrives pre-sold, self-qualified, and already in a buying frame, without the resistance a person carries when you interrupt them. Reversing pursuit also confers status: the party being sought looks scarce and authoritative, which lifts perceived value. A genuinely useful free mechanism triggers reciprocity and makes first contact feel low-risk. And responding costs the prospect a small, deliberate action, and that action is itself a commitment that tends to predict the sale.

Examples of Attraction Machinery
“Creating SO Much Intrigue And Value Before You Even Mention Your Product, That Your Customers Raise Their Hand And Practically BEG You To Sell It To Them... Regardless Of The Price!”
A funnel marketer promises a method that makes customers ask to buy before the product is even named.
Why it’s this techniqueThe line reverses the direction of pursuit: value is stacked 'Before You Even Mention Your Product' so the prospect does the chasing, wanting customers who 'Raise Their Hand And Practically BEG You To Sell It To Them.' Desire is engineered until the buyer approaches the seller, and 'Regardless Of The Price' signals that the pull is strong enough to make cost irrelevant. The structural tell is the inverted ask: the seller withholds the pitch while the customer volunteers, begging to buy rather than being sold. That withhold-then-be-pursued shape, magnetizing the prospect toward the offer, is the beat the whole promise is built to deliver.

“Our new catalogue, containing a wealth of valuable information, will be mailed free to interested persons.”
A piano maker invites interested readers to send for a free catalogue, with supply arranged directly when no local dealer is near.
Why it’s this techniqueThe copy pulls the prospect toward it rather than pushing at them. It dangles 'a wealth of valuable information' and makes acquisition costless with 'mailed free', converting a sales approach into an invitation the reader accepts on their own initiative. The structural tell is the offer of a resource in exchange for self-identification: 'interested persons' must raise their hand, so response is opt-in and the catalogue functions as bait that qualifies the curious. Nothing here agitates a problem or names a threat; the mechanism is the giveaway that attracts inbound contact, which is exactly the move the passage is built around.

“the services of its industrial Development Department are available without cost. This department is equipped to supply answers to the many questions that arise when the matter of plant or warehouse location is under consideration. Upon request, this department will send a map showing the area in which this financial service is rendered, also list of suitable factory buildings in the territories reached by this service.”
An energy company offers a free site-selection research service that manufacturers can request by mail.
Why it’s this techniqueThe copy pulls prospects in by offering genuine value at no cost: expert help 'available without cost' that answers 'the many questions that arise' about plant location, plus a concrete deliverable, a 'map' and a 'list of suitable factory buildings.' The reader is invited to raise a hand 'upon request' rather than being pushed a product. The structural tell is that the whole passage is a free service positioned to draw the right buyer forward, not a persuasive argument or a price appeal. Value given first is the engine here: the useful map and building list do the attracting, self-selecting serious plant-siting manufacturers.

“Posted Free to any address with Price List. It brings our Warehouse to Your Doors.”
A farm-implement dealer offers a free mailed price list framed as bringing the warehouse to the customer's door.
Why it’s this techniqueThe copy dangles a no-cost object, a price list 'Posted Free to any address', and lets that giveaway do the pulling: the reader sends nothing, risks nothing, and the goods travel toward them. The line 'It brings our Warehouse to Your Doors' completes the reversal, casting the seller as the party crossing the distance while the prospect stays put. The tell is the direction of motion, the offer moves outward to draw the reader inward, rather than pushing a product claim or naming a pain. The whole notice is built to make contact feel free and effortless, so responding costs the reader nothing.

Boundary Conditions
When it lands
- The copy names a concrete attractor the prospect can request or respond to, not just a vague promise.
- The mechanism gives real value up front, so raising a hand feels low-risk and worth doing.
- The offer targets a qualified audience, so the people who initiate are the ones worth converting.
- The reversal is explicit in the words: customers are shown seeking, calling, or coming to you.
When it dilutes
- The copy still chases, pushing a hard ask before offering any reason to move toward you.
- The attractor is generic, any newsletter or any download, so it pulls tire-kickers instead of buyers.
- Inbound demand is asserted as a bare result with no mechanism a reader can actually act on.
- The free thing carries no real value, so reciprocity and the low-risk first step never form.
